Condenser sitting

Hello BMW group...!
I've got a new condenser sitting in my garage for about 4 years...I want to put it in use.
Will I have to evacuate the system in order to install?

Yes, does it have a drier in it? If so, replace it. Sitting for four years is not good. I had to use a bolt to get the drier out. You screw the bolt into the top assembly hole. Using a prybar, lift up the bolt. The dryer pops right up. Replace your high pressure switch while the system is empty too.

You always need to evacuate the system before you charge it if it's been open to atmosphere. You can't have air and moisture in there.

Got it!
My intention is to use the Dryer currently on the car.
Dryer not attached to the condenser.

I assume if you're talking about changing the condenser the system doesn't work (and the refrigerant has leaked out). If this is the case you should also change the dryer.

The dryer has a desiccant in it that absorbs small amounts of moisture to keep the system dry. If the system has been open to atmosphere for any length of time, that desiccant is going to be saturated and the dryer will not be able to do its job.

Always no matter what!! Evacuate the system and change the drier pack, plus add the oil. Any stains on the drier is leakage/blow-by and you'd be ahead to replace the compressor too.

Summer is starting here and it's already hotter than a goat's ass in a pepper patch 107f, so this weekend is ac checks for me.
