Permanent hazards on

I'll jump right into it.

My remote key wasn't working for a while, I was just using the key itself to lock and unlock the vehicle by physically turning the key.

Went to unlock it today, and I think the cylinder barrel broke for good. The key just spins inside. I ordered the repair kit right away and called a tow.

The tow guy opened the driver's side door, and the alarm went off. Now it goes off all the time, no matter what. When I'm driving it goes off continuously.
Central lock/unlock button doesn't work, turn signals obviously don't work, it's just flashing all hazard lights.
I had to pull the fuse for the siren in the meantime.
If I turn off the vehicle, it will stop flashing.
If I sit in a running vehicle for a while, it will stop flashing.
I don't know what to do in the meantime lol. I'm going to try and scan with ISTA and see if I clear the errors.
I feel like the barrel cylinder might be stuck in the "lock" position, so maybe the car thinks it's trying to lock itself all the time

You have to take out the broken cylinder and use a big screwdriver to set the lock actuator to center detent position. (Or maybe more importantly to the unlock position first).

Ahhh exactly my thoughts. I was really hoping to not have take apart the door...

I tried inpa as well. Used it to lock and unlock rear doors, both lock and unlock. Unfortunately the front commands to lock and unlock dont work, so this drivers side door must be stuck, trying to lock the car all the time.

You don’t have to take the whole door apart to centre the lock - just remove the lock cylinder (the first step in replacing a DHC) - this will give you access to insert a screw-driver as Andrew suggested...

This is the latest example that if you are using the key to manually lock/unlock the driver's door, you can start counting the days before it breaks.

I kept a repair kit in my glove box. When my key fob didn't work i had to repair the lock cylinder about once a year.

Just need a 4mm hex to remove the lock cylinder. Under a plastic cover.

I made a "breakaway" screw i could break from outside if the cylinder broke since my key fob didn't work.

Andrew how did you make a breakaway screw?

I was thinking that the cylinder pin would be jammed in the actuator, so I thought i needed to take off the door panel.
Turns out i was able to remove the cylinder with 1 bolt.

how to post a photo comment on facebook

Ordered a rebuild kit from Amazon, should be here in a couple of days.

In the meantime, the alarm is still going off, and I cannot use the central locking button inside the vehicle.

I'll try disconnecting the window connector.
I thought once the cylinder was removed, the actuator would be released from "locked" position, so not sure if the actuator is busted as well now.

The actuator can be turned with a big screwdriver. Look deep deep inside the hole.

This deep!

I can turn with my finger on a good day butt it's not easy!

When my key didn't remote and before i made the break away screw i just wrapped some Teflon around a cut off screw so i coukd pull the cylinder out with no tools ans get in with justa finger. (while waiting for the repair kit and before i kept a spare).

This is the input shaft. It turns ≈ 180°.

Take note one axis is fatter i forgot if that is the x or y axis but it's obvious when you turn it full lock to lock then center. There's a detent at zero that you can feel when turning with finger.

When you use the repair kit it's important to sand the parts to make them run smooth and use some non gummy lubricant like Teflon or graphite never use grease or oil.

PM for break away bolt method.
