![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's almost ready. I need replace the brake line that runs behind the engine while it's out, to install the nickel copper one which will never rust. Then replacing the transfer case rubber mount is a royal pita... Otherwise the engine is pretty much ready to be bolted to transmission and dropped in... I was thinking of trying to make it run on a stand, but I realized that there's still no ews delete available for these engines, so bench run won't work. I've also stumbled upon an interesting discovery. Some X5s come with pcv valves on those valve covers, and some come with pcv valve on the left cover, and pvc valve integrated into the hose for the right side. Basically hose #1 has been superseded and NLA. Hose #2 is for engines with PCV valves in the valve cover. And hose #4 is for right valve covers without the PCV. I'm wondering what engines came with PCV valve as part of the valve cover, and which didn't, and why? |

Just now getting back to this, good progress!
Interested to hear how the racing diff feels too. Do you have a link to details on those? PCV may be TU vs non-TU?

Alright installed the engine, tranny, transfer case!
Bolted up the suspension, no half shafts. Way too cold to work on it outside, and I don't want it sitting outside all winter. Bringing it home where I can put in on the hoist and keep working on it inside the garage Still need to do the wiring and all modules, dash etc. My plan is to connect whatever is needed to finally test start it. Then I know I put the engine together properly, and can finish the rest. It's gonna be pretty tight in the garage, but at least it will be inside ![]()

As with any project that's been going for too long, you start forgetting everything.
When I took things apart, I thought I had taken enough pictures, but when putting things together, it's never enough. New engine computer fan seems to be 3 pins on 2002 3.0 model, and I couldn't figure out why I had two connectors left in the dme connection box. But it was because 4.8 wiring harness is made for 2 pin ebox fan. Thankfully I've saved that fan lol. I also circled some things in red, if anyone has a picture of how things circled in red are supposed to be ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() image upload tool online0 I finished running most of the wiring. For now the trunk door and wores under headliner are still disconnected. I'm trying to get to a point where I can try cranking the engine finally!
