02 [002] Driver's belt tensioner, resistance too high
Purchased used seats and getting this error.
I tried cleaning the contacts really well, but that didn't help. Disconnecting/reconnecting the cable just creates/removes another error: 70 [112] Seat occupancy detector, connection to B+ I haven't figured out what wires i touched to make it go away and come back Thinking about coding it out or buying a bypass on ebay.Back to belt tensioner. I have a few spares laying around, so I tried replacing the 2 wire harness with 2 different ones like this, part number 52108255704 ![]() So right now I figure the only piece left to replace is the whole buckle thing, it got another connector that cannot be disconnected ![]() Anyone found a different solution or fixed the problem this same? All the post I read recommend replacing just the wire, nobody mentions replacing the whole buckle assembly |

Mine had a code 71. Seat occupancy detector. I used a bypass to clear the code. The air bag will deploy even if no one is sitting on it. Better to deploy than not in an accident. To clear the seat belt alarm, an extension insert is used.
Insert a belt latch into the buckle. Does the code change?

Code doesn't change even if buckled. I'm surprised there's not a lot of complaints on the forum for this.

Not sure if related, but just discovered the steering column adjustment doesn't work anymore either

Coded out the seat occupancy sensor for passenger side, no more errors there.
The only error left is belt tensioner |

The problem with belt tensioner, only thing left to replace is part # 72119119539, 72117078041, 72118408761
I decided to give if a shot and look at the salvage yard. Found an X5 and removed the tensioner. Googled the part number 72118257789, and it came up to E46. I knew that E53 and E46 seats were Interchangeable, so I didn't lose hope...although I was confused why that serial number is not part of X5. I had already tried measuring resistance on my old belt tensioner, and it was infitnite. Measured resistance on this "new" tensioner, and it measured 2.1-2.2 ohms. I had my hopes up. Interestingly, the belt buckles were different length. My old buckle was super short, and I've almost never seen them this short, so I don't know if I'll find one this short. Actually the passenger side, it's not as short, so I don't know if it's supposed to be like that. Anyone got an idea on short vs long belt buckles? |

Looks to me like the short one has "fired" and is "game over".
Isn't that what these things do? The SRS system triggers it and it pulls the belt down tight? One off item too - once it's fired once, it has to be replaced. It cannot be reset.

It's fired and even if it wasn't the secondary mounting/alignment hole is too small to mount correctly and I wouldn't trust a hand drilled tab on a safety device. Sent from Embassy network using Tapatalk
