My strip on top of windshield WAS much more narrow...due to sun etc it has all but crumbled away, when I inquired if it had and purpose in keeping out rain (the little we get here) was told no, the bonding agent holding the glass in place is doing that ....dunno what is try but re wind noise no idea sorry

Now that you mention it...I agree.should be one smooth rubber strip across from one side to the other.
