How to remove black exterior window trim

How does this trim come off? Item 1 in the diagram here.

Nobody? I tried the obvious by prying on it but I'm worried to damage or bend it.

Yes, there are examples of other BMW models of the era, but I didn't see one for E53 specifically. They said to pull straight away from the vehicle but I don't see how that's possible without destroying or bending the trim.
