A/C fan replacement 4.4, 4.8 complication

Has anyone replaced the A/C fan recently?
I'm completely stumped by it!
Part number 64546921381 shows it's compatible with all models and years, 3.0, 4.4, 4.6 and 4.8

So on my 4.8l I have an intercooler, and the fan simply won't sit properly.

In this video, the guy has the same problem

I don't understand how the fan is listed compatible, but you need to cut it to make it fit?

Has anyone had the same issue? This is really weird!

To install the top of the fan, you need to remove parts #4 & 5 on thr realoem diagram.
And to install the bottom, you have to cut off plastic fan shroud.
What in the world is this??

Why does your 4.8 have an intercooler?

Maybe you need part number 64546921382 which is the fan for the 3.0 diesel which fits over our intercooler. Or you can just trim the bottom plastic off the one you have.

Sorry wrong terminology. I misspoke. It's just an oil cooler for the engine oil.

But yeah, looking for those who've replaced their AC fans on their LCI 4.4 - 4.8

I ended up just cutting off the bottom piece of the plastic and the fan installed fine after that.
But still, I usually don't have to modify parts if I'm purchasing a well known brand off a part number...

Why don't you take it apart and just install the fan motor on the old housing? To be honest it sounds a bit strange that there are two separate electric fans. A viscous and electric fan is understandable but all the newer models only have one electric fan and it's enough.

I guess electrically it's compatible,
Housing and such may need to be trimmed ...this is common with many aftermarket products attempting to copy OEM products.

*I just replaced the BMW radiator with aftermarket.
The bottom footing was too wide had to bend it in so the bmw plastic footing would fit!

I was curious and took a look. In the catalogs it's supposed to fit your car as you said.

But if it's an aftermarket part, all bets are off, especially nowadays, as mentioned above.

Lots of even model-specific parts not fitting properly anymore.

Recently replaced the radiator guideplate on the 3.0i and the connections didnt line up with the rest of the system and had to return it.

I've never had to ever modify a brand name part to make it fit.

But I found the answer to my question!

N62B48, and i guess N62B44 etc only have one fan, like Clavurion said!

So, I was trying to fix a second fan, on top of the first fan that goes inside the radiator (closer to the engine)

This is for M54 engines, for 3.0l, where there is a clutch fan, and an extra AC fan. On N62 engines, there's only one electric fan, and no clutch fan. That's it. So I was trying to add an extra fan where no fan js needed lol. Why parts catalogue shows it compatible with N62 is strange, since it's clearly not!

This also explains why there are no few replies. Because no one replaced the AC fan on their N62 engines, because it doesn't exist!

I was today years old I learned the 4.8 doesnt have a puller fan.

But that begs the question, how did you get to thinking of fixing a fan your car didnt come with?

That's a very good question, and exactly something that I'd be asking as well!

You see, I'm in the middle of a swap, from 2002 3.0 to 2005 4.8. Hell of a swap.
But basically I tried to keep parts as much separated as I could, but it's hard to keep track of everything.
So many parts are different, even if they look similar. For example the fuel pumps are different, the aux water pumps are different, even if both look exactly the same.
This is a crazy project lol.

Some things I still haven't figured out. For example #3 and #5 are the same, but why do they have different part numbers? What's different about them? Nothing
