Hey Adam, so will you haul that thing out to help me the next time I move? Who needs U-Haul!

Where the heck are you going to park that thing?

Yep - HR Weight distribution hitch and Tekonsha brake controller for me. Installed the controller myself using these great instructions http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/BM...er%20Brake.pdf on X5World.
I only have one towing complaint - the clearance lights on my caravan appear to consume too much power so they all flash off and on every few seconds. I removed some of the bulbs and it is OK - but maybe not legal.
Total of 16 lights (4 front 4 back 3 each side + 2 license plate) each 10 watts = 160W consumption. 12 lights seems to be OK. Havent had this problem with other vehicles. May have to replace some of the bulbs with LEDs.

Great for towing otherwise. You'll never know whether you should have installed a brake controller and weight hitch until an emergency and things go pear shaped. Given the cost of the car I cant see why you wouldnt install them for larger loads.
My 2c.

I don't think I've ever seen an X5 tow anything but a ski rack! These pics make the sav look like a beast! Very cool.

The new X5s come with a Towing Stability Control built into the DSC. It slows the vehicle down if it feels swaying......problem with that is that you're supposed to speed up a bit if you feel swaying...no?
