Did non-subwoofer X5s have subwoofer wiring harness?

This is my 2nd e53, so I'm not new to them. I'm getting the bugs worked out of this one and I never thought about the fact that some came without subwoofers. I can't see why someone would un-install the factory sub in the last 20 years, so I'm guessing this car came without one. Did the sub only come with the DSP system? If I get a sub from the boneyard, can I just plug it in? Do I need to grab the amp with it? Is there more?

I thought amp left sub right. I didn’t have, wife did but I thought I saw the connector for it and was looking into your same thought process before I traded my 2001 for 2011.

Wife’s with sub did have the dsp.

I think the thing in the dash is only the remote. The “amp” is also the radio if I recall correctly.

Mine has DSP no woofer. I know the woofer plug is there. I think the amp is needed though. If it was plug and play, I would install both components.

Mine has no DSP and no subwoofer. What does the connector look-like so I can check for you?

It's a flat connector with like 5 or 6 wires. It looks like the tail light connector.

I'll never use the car audio for anything other than news or podcasts. If I want to hear music, I'll use earbuds. So if it's any more effort than "easy," it's not worth it.

I started using airpod for noise cancelation and way way better sound than anything gonna come from car mostly because of the 25db drop in background noise.

What's great is that NC does not cancel horns and sirens something i was concerned about until I heard then and really no difference in how far away i can hear them.

Driving woth NC on drops driving fatigue quite a lot.

I'll be putting a factory sub into a vehicle that didn't come with it in the next few days so I can check the wiring.

Personally I will be using an aftermarket amp for the subwoofer so I won't have any info on that but I believe that you need a DSP amp to be able to use it.

The previous X I had did come with the DSP option and I'm pretty sure I removed that amp before I scrapped the car so I'll try and have a look to compare both amplifiers.

I have a similar issue where i am trying to install a amp in the car and then add sub woofers too.

I have the BMW 65.12-6 905 119 (086932054) amp and not sure where i can install this amp in the back.

Am i right in thinking that this Amp would be fitted where the CD CHanger sites or is the locatiion in another place?

Thank you

Yes that's where the factory amp would be located. Rear driver's side cubby in the trunk.
