Unhappy Fell in love...but then it happened!!

I have only owned my x for about 10 month, so I have never had the chance to run it in the snow. Well it finally snowed...and man did I fall in love. So sure footed and fun to drive. THEN IT HAPPENED. My wife goes to to leave for work. At first she could not get the front doors open, then it finally opened...once inside the door would not shut. so she attempted to close it 3 or 4 times and ALL the A/C buttons FELL OFF!! So she comes inside to get me to fix the situation. As I cme out I open the passangers side and it did the same thing neith door would shut!! So we held the door's closed and hit the lock button(thinking it woud unstick the latches) Well it locked down the doors for good. We had to access the vehicle via the rear seats. I can't believe a 50K would have such problems. Very disapointing. I call BMW road side and they towed it to Tate BMW in Annapolis,MD. Has anyone alse had this problem??? Any feedback on Tate??

Yep, a couple of weeks ago- driver's side only. Same situation- when it warms up it will work again. If it happens in the future, I was able to open mine after 45 min w/engine running with the heat on full blast.

Mine was kind of fun- I was inside the vehicle on my way to the dealer for a trim part, and had to crawl out the passemger door right in front of the showroom.

Yeah common problem for '01 and earlier X5 that's parked outside in cold/snow conditions. Moisture gets in the locking mechanism then freezes which prevents the door from catching when closing or opening... A fix is available from BMW wherein they insulate the part to prevent moisture getting to the internal door parts...

Tate BMW in Annapolis, I regret to tell you, is HORRIBLE. I had my 2003 M3 serviced there and they didn't even know there was a 3000 mile service on a M car. They also treated me like crap, assuming I was too young to be in their dealership. They only started talking to me when they saw my M3 roll out.

There service department for both TATE BMW and TATE Chevrolet is terrible. They have been caught lying before. In one case my friend changed out the brakes on his dad's X5 because the brakes were making noise. His father then took the X in for scheduled maintenance (which would have included checking the brakes) they then called the man and told him that he needed new brakes. He asked "are you just going by the maintenance schedule or did a service rep look at the car?", the guy replied with "no, we looked at it". When confronted with the fact that the brake pads had less then 100 miles on them, the service rep said.. "ohh, we were talking about another X5".

Get your car out of that shop as fast as you can.

Had the door lock thing happen to me 3-4 times. Usually freed up within 15-20 minutes with the heater on high. I might look into that insulation and the sticking lock button sometime.
