rear spring -this look normal?

about 3 months into my 04 3.0 6spd and i have a random light clunk from the rear. not consistent, but usually when turning into a driveway at low speed and the pavement angles change. the car had mostly new suspension parts installed prior to my ownership including struts. subframe and diff bushing look OK. what i notice is the rear springs appear to be, not sitting on the lower perch square. is this a possibility? Could they be installed wrong or upside down? The picture is the passenger side, not a great photo but you can see where it looks off-set to the pad on the lower perch.

Looks like that plastic spring mount(?) on the perch is gone and the coil is shifted over. Happened on mine but to be fair it's not really showing in the photos. My replacements were a white nylon type of inverted bowl and a bitch to put in. Who knew those springs were so tight in there.

Impossible to say from that angle. Try to take a picture from above so you can see the spring lower end sitting on the cone shaped rubber pad and that the spring end is a straight cut, not broken.

I’ll try to pull a wheel off later tonight for a better angle. I guess the spring might not be clocked correctly. watching a video on removal/install and it looked like that is necessary.

Rotational orientation is not specified in BMW instructions.

yeah thinking maybe so. I haven’t seen a spring out to check the end to end difference but the factory image above shows a reduced taper in the lower spring end. I hope to pull a wheel off today for a better view.

The top mounts are a bit suspect. On the left side the plastic locking part is not pushed in all the way and on the right side it seems to be broken in the middle. From the trunk side you could see if the rubber pads are still centered/located correctly. Are there any signs the top part of the springs have rubbed against the chassis, top mount allowed to slide sideways?

Top mount 33531093786, plastic locking part 33531093787
