Exclamation Swap Int Door Latches/led??

....That killer little LED light in the interior door latch well (the orangish one...) has gone out...How am I supposed to find my way out in the dark?? ...seriously, anyone know if I can swap the passenger door latch (...one that works, one that no one will ever see or use...) well LED mechanism/latch/lamp with the one for the driver's door? They look to be of the same measurement/proportions...Stealer wants 95 Monies for the part, not to mention the 2 hours labor to install...
...not quite high-priority for my hard earned hundies...

...but willing to do some surgery on the door to fix it.. ...yikes...Anyone attempt the deed themselves, or have any good suggestions?? I gotta have this working...(anal retent).

Thanks X5 World,

Marko

I think you're better off buying a new LED light since replacing it involves removing the whole door panel. I'm sure they're not expensive so just buy a new one.

Check with Vaheh @ Crevier BMW for better price or Kevin @ BMW of Macon (478.757.7000 mention X5World as referred by Rob).

...I'm being told by stealer that the part is a composite..LED bulb is manufactured into the black plastic housing, and bulb itself is not replaceable...

did the later build 01's have the lighted interior door handles? I thought they didn't have them until 02. On another note, the 05 service loaner I drove the other day didn't have it, and it had premium package...

my friend and I were just taking off the door panels on my old 01 4.4i (12/00 production), and found the LED lights were tied together with some wires inside the door. All of the 01's I've ever seen haven't had the hole by the door handle to insert the LED light, but the light exists inside the door panel, and works. Does anybody know why BMW built it like this?

Yeah, the light is part of a small assembly, but you can solder new bulbs (might not match current ones though).

And lit door handles only came with the auto dimming mirrors option for all years, not sure why

In my 05 the wire that has the LED at the end of it is removable. It is a squeeze and pull out. You have to remove it to take the door panel off.

They seemed replaceable when I removed the door panels on my X to apply MrBMWX5's regulator reinforcement. Pull of the panel and take a looksee.
