just installed nav....should the screen auto dim?

wondering if i misplaced a wire or something, but should the screen either auto dim, or dip a little when i turn on my headlights?

Congrats! You'll love the NAV. There's so much you can do with it besides just the navigation...TV, DVD, Sirius radio, Backup cam, etc.

I haven't really noticed any difference in brightness with my lights on or off. You can adjust the brightness by going into the settings menu. I believe once you set it, it stays at that level.

Everything else working okay with your install?? Any pics of your install? Do you have DSP?

thanks king.....and retrofit is going pretty well. still have to put quite a bit back on the car, but i do have a question:

i removed 2 thin blue "covers" on both the main connection behind the NAV screen (where you plug old main plug into new one), and on the main plug into the new trunk mounted radio unit (i did this because there were contacts on the opposite side of the plug fittings) WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT? NAV seems to be working fine, but my steering wheel tilt is not working right now. i'm hoping it will work again when i hook the seat back up. any thoughts?

Yes, it should auto dim when you turn your headlights on.
Nothing wrong.

Brightness is also controlled with the dash light rehostat (to the right of the headlight switch), when the headlights are on.

some NAV screens auto dim, some don't?????

in researching the issue, seems like most euro X5 owners have a screen that dims with the ambient light levels, and most US owners say it does not. WHAT GIVES

my 16:9 has a small pinholehole (sensor) in the center bottom of the front frame. i bought my screen from lithuania...do the US screens have this pinhole? the screen is very bright at night without any manual adjusting on my part.

It's not a "dimming" persay...it just changes to a different color scheme. This can be disabled/enabled in the settings menu on the main screen. Yes, we have the pinhole too.

I knew you could change color scheme in the settings menu...but I didn't know it could be enabled to change with ambiant light? How do you do that?

so this "color scheme changing" happens automatically on your NAV screen? what SW version are you running?

i see where i can manually change the scheme...but then i might as well dim the brighteness.
