Don't have a specific answer for you but I know it has been discussed here several times. Do a search and maybe you will dig up some more info. Good luck and keep it filled to at least half.

There are two sending units- both are under the rear seat. One is integral to the fuel pump assembly. One or the other is causing the problem. BTW how much fuel are you adding when the guage reads 1/4 to get a full tank? There is another possibility based on your answer.

the gauge on my '01 sometimes sticks(5 or 6 times) - it usually unsticks by turning the engine off and restarting (on rare occasions I've had to do this more than once) - could it be the cluster??

Gas Gauge

MY 2002 X5 3.0i.....I have a similiar problem when I fill up the gas tank the gauge will stick at 1/4 to 1/2 full. When I turn the car off and then back on a few times it usually moves to reading full. Any answers would be appreciated.

same for my X. It requires on and off a few times before it goes back to the full reading after refuel.
