x5 4.8is engine

Has anyone heard if the new 4.8 litre V8 that is going into the 750i and 550i will make it into the 4.8is in MY2006?
It seems like it would make sense, since the 3.0 is going to get an upgrade too.

What's the difference between the current 4.8 and the new 4.8?

They're the same engine just tuned differently, aren't they? Slightly different output. Anyway, current X5 lineup won't see any new engines.

I believe it is a new design. The current 4.8 is based off of the 4.4, just bored and stroked,so I understand.

I don't think the current 4.8 is based off the 4.4. The current 4.8 engine was designed by Alpina from their B10 V8S engine. The blue prints were handed out to BMW for mass production.

I stand corrected. Curious though that they kept the same overall looks. Is the engine in the 4.8is the same engine that Alpina used in the V8?(Z8 clone)

The new 4.8 however is definitely a new design.
