heated mirror troubleshooting?

How do we troubleshoot/ verify our heated mirrors work.
scenario - it was 58 degrees this morning. My mirrors had dew and and a lil foggy. I hit the auto button on the heat but if i can remember the car runs it own program like the heated mirrors when it s a certain temp. i noticed the left side mirror cleared up before i could even get to the top of my block. The right side mirror didnt clear up until like 8 mins later.

how do we trouble shoot or test to see if the elements are going bad?trying to get ready before it turns winter here. brrrrrrrrrrrr cold

sadly, I believe you just have to buy new mirrors to test that. OR look at the wiring to see if its cracked as the passenger side often dips in reverse and weakens the wires a LOT faster than normal use. So a lof of the times the passenger (right side) does fail as its a wiring issue

Perhaps one of those heat sensor guns (Harbor Freight comes to mind as routinely having them on sale) could take a cold reading then another reading a few minutes later?

Never used the heated mirror feature. I find one of these adequate for my needs.

OP is probably referring to mist/dew in the morning

I thought it was my mirrors as well. Bought new mirrors.
Right side still no heat. Have yet to crack her back open to look at the wiring..

sadly, I think it is the wiring, but thats a good thing as its usually simple to fix (remove break/add new wire/resolder)

Unless you've pulled the wires from the terminals on the back of the mirror glass...or replaced the mirrors with non-heated mirrors....or the heating elements are burnt out and don't work. You can not not have used the feature.

There is no on/off switch or button for the heated mirrors...they work automatically on a pulsed heating cycle based on the ambient temperature. See the chart below
