I've never used them, and I am happy with my Axxis Deluxe pads, but Akebono has a reasonably good web site. The pad material is reportedly ceramic, and there are three compounds, so I would ask which of the three he is recommending.
If you do get them, let us know about pad noise, and initial bite. We won't be able to find out about the wear rate for some time....

Have to agree. Axxis, well documented to work with the vehicle.

I would be wondering why he would want to use something other than what you have requested?

First-hand advice here...
I'd insist on the Axxis Deluxe Plus.
I've installed either Mintex Red Box (initially) or Axxis Deluxe Plus (later, after DaveZ began carrying them) on my prior four Bimmers. Worked as described in all cases, and I was happy as a clam. Because the D920 pad shape is so unusual for the 4.8is, I had limited few options that did NOT include Axxis or Mintex. So I went with a ceramic pad from EBC (Red Stuff). While the dust properties are a tremendous improvement over stock, I seem to have lost the initial bite of the OE pads. I bedded the pads rigorously following DaveZ's procedures from his site. Now, I did experience a slight mushying of the brake pedal that indicates a fluid bleed may be required, so I'm not ready to chalk all the difference to the pad compound. The pedal holds firm when depressed after startup, so no master cylinder issues here--it's just closer to the floorboard now. However, I am quite confident that after I bleed the brake system, I still will be experiencing a slightly diminished cold bite due to differences in pad compound. Lesson learned? Stick with what you know! Translation for you? Skip the Akebonos! Good luck! -Dave
