Question regarding 4.6 rev-counter lights

Hi Folks,

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks, picking up some great tips (thank you!) and info prior to collecting a 4.6 (first registered Dec 03) yesterday.

When the car starts from cold, all of the 'extra' rev-counter lights are illuminated, and as expected they go out one by one as the engine warms up. I had something close to a 4 hour drive back from the dealer, and the red light and last orange light still hadn't gone out by the time I arrived home. Engine oil temp hit the 100 midpoint quickly and never wavered.

Can anyone please confirm whether this is the correct behaviour? The manual is vague and could be interpreted to mean these lights never go out, but it strikes me as a little odd that these lights would remain on - somehow having an orange and a red light on permanently ought to be some sort of warning; it just doesn't seem very BMW-ish!

The car has behaved perfectly (other than the nav needing a reset, but that sums up my experience of nav systems in general!) and I know the dealer will sort the problem if indeed it is a problem, but I was curious to confirm what the correct behaviour is before speaking to the dealer on Monday.

The behavior you have described is normal. The orange light (approaching redline) and red light (redline) will stay lit always.

Will post pics when I've had a chance to wash the salt off; so much on UK roads right now. Even then I may need a few days to match the shine on yours - great photos!
