My X5 is running great!

Sorry, with all the negative posts, I thought I'd share when I had a good time. I've only had the car since the week before Thanksgiving so take that with a grain of salt.

First the bad. in the 8ish weeks I've owned the car I've had two real issues.
- Codes 1158/1160 which were fixed when I cleaned the MAF and put everything back together.... probably a loose screw.
- Starting issue which was fixed with a new fuel filter.

On my list of To Dos that I bought the car with, I'm down to
- Cluster pixels
- Cracked fog light

I've done some standard maintenance like new tires, new battery and an oil change, but nothing I wasn't planning on when I bought the car. I also added a Basslink for a little better sound.

So right now, the car is running great with no check engine light. My wife loves everything about the car except the MPG and I actually drove my car for the first time in two weeks today.

Oh ya, KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!!

I thought the same thing when I'd had mine for 2 months! But seriously in order to understand the "negative posts" you need to own and maintain the X for a while - then they won't seem like negative posts as much as owner experiences. I've had mine for almost 7 years most of which I've been happy with, but I've had my share of $1k+ repair bills - and yes I do most of my own work.

Trust me, I know what I'm getting into. I've owned 2 E39s, and the M5 is more expensive to fix than an X5... though to be honest in the 6 years I've had the M5 (damn, I can't believe it's been that long) it's actually been relatively reliable. Still that said, my 540 before that with the same 4.4 engine was a maintenance hog. Water pumps, power steering pump, coolant system twice, various hoses, 2 interior door handles, 2 exterior door handles (really... BMW can't get a door handle right... my Nissan Pathfinder has a quarter million miles and it's still on its first set of door handles) MAFs, CPS, and a ton of other crap.... so I'm used to the maintenance of this car. In fact, the main reason I went for the 4.4 X5 was because I thought I was familiar with most of what was going to go wrong and I knew I could work on them....

That said, the only thing I'm really shocked about with the X5 that I have to be worried about is the transmission. Both of my E39s were manuals and I never heard of people complaining about their automatic transmissions on the E39 board so it was an oversight by me in totally forgetting that the X5 would have a completely different transmission because it's all wheel drive.
