Flat Tire Question

Hello Guys,

I got a flat tire and luckly found that before I drive.
today I went to tire shop to check/fix the tire,
but they said that my tire isn't good and want me to replace it.
also one guy suggested me that I'd better get as a set since I have AWD.

do I really need to get a set of tire? or can just get one which I need to replace it?
I only put like 5,000 miles on my new tires, so I still see alot of the treads of life.

any suggestions/advices?

Thank you!

If you're getting the exact same tire as a replacement, I would just get one as the differential in diameter would be very minimal for only 5,000miles.

I'd get one new tire...at 5K miles, you still have mold nubs on the sidewalls and have barely scuffed the tread on the other 3.

If it was a nail/screw in the tread area, it is easily patched; that patch will outlast the tire. If it was sidewall damage, get a new one. Be prepared to get hammered if it's a regular tire joint. And, tell them to use the silicone cuffs for mounting so they don't scratch the wheel...and, hope they don't overtorque the lug bolts. Other than that, Good Luck.

Post what dealer or whomever tried to pitch you 4 new tires on the basis that the vehicle was AWD......

You know, so other people don't fall into that trap later.

motordavid> thank you for quick reply,
yeah I also thought that was a nail/screw problem.
but a guy from there who checked my tire said my tire isn't good. - didn't even tell me what's that bad.
well, I've stopped at my local small shop today during lunch break, and will go check again my tire at other shop.

WagnerX5> oh no, it's not from dealer and not a whole set.
since I have 10 x 22 front/10.5 x 22 rear setup, what they told me was just a set for rear.

- just replace one. I found a screw on one of my rear 19's (old Pirelli Scorpion Zeroes) and guy from tire shop said I needed to replace the tire and asked him to show me and saw that the damage can actually be fixed and just told them to patch it and I'll replace when needed.

I agree that you should be OK with a single new tire if in fact they can't patch it with a mushroom plug...the tire guy should have been more specific, (or better informed) because with AWD, all the tires have to be within a certain circumference tolerance (5000 miles should be within) or it can damage your AWD. I don't know if it is 3/32 or 7/32, but all the tires have to be very close in terms of wear. Good luck!
