I'm new to the forum and was wondering what advice anyone can give to me as I am about to purchase a 2003 4.6iS. Is there anything to look out for in particular? I will visiting the dealer this Sunday and would like to have as much information as possible. Thanks, Calibo |

I always think that if your looking at an M or M-Like car (330i ZHP or X5 4.6/4.8) Have an independent mechanic look at it, depending on what state, it should be mandated (meaning allowed and cannot be turned down) I think the mix is 50/50, 50% drive em good and respect them, 50% drive em like crap and you need to make sure what percent your getting because BMWs are in my opinion very sensitive, so make sure its a CPO! That way it should have an extended warrenty, and good luck and welcome!

Recently bought my misses a 2002 example. Body wise it was perfect but mechanically it needed a new starter motor, central locaking regulator and a tyre pressure monitor sensor all of which added up to about £1000!
Its the little things that add up, so making sure everything works is the key!

I think having an independent mechanic look at it is a good idea too. You should also look for obvious signs of neglect - is the engine clean? the oil clean & full? abnormal wear on the seats? does the condition of the vehicle jive with the mileage? any paint overspray - underneath and in the wheel wells? does every function and feature work? - could take some time testing everything... tread depth, rotor & pad thickness, any rotor gouges? Stuff like that... GL & welcome!

I have an '03 4.6 and bought it new. I have 47,000 miles and love it very much. I have not had really any problems and when I have, I took it and got it fixed. If it still has warranty then you should not have any problems. If something does go wrong, BMW will fix it. How many miles and what condition is it in? You will be very happy with it if you decide to buy, good luck..................

If you could wait a little longer you should be able to find a even better deal because the E70 will be dropping in November. 4.6is are going for $36 $38 range now. By November they will be even less.

I would make sure you get the service history and do a car fax. Also try to contact the original owner to see if there were any problems. I did all of the above and bought my 4.6is six months ago and I am very pleased with it so far. Good Luck.
