Transporting pair of skis inside the car

Hi, maybe dumb question for most of you, but what is the safest way to transport a pair of skis in the car without damaging seats/windows?
I know, I know..it's all here http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/BMW X5 Owners Manual - 2001.pdf
...but, it's not clear to me, is the ski bag "built-in" or it's a separate accessory?
No time to order roof ski rack, I'm going to the mountain on Sat.
Thanks for any help

If you have the Activity Package, the ski bag is built in behind the armrest in the rear seat. Pull the armrest down and if you have a ski bag, you will undo the velcro attached leather cover. The ski bag is packed inside. There should also be a little door on the back of your rear seat that can be released from the front. Essentially you slide the skis in from the back and they extend up to the front center console.
