Damn, you guys get better in your 4.8s than I get in my 4.4 15,500 miles, ( 14.5 -16 combination city/hwy). My fuel gauge moves faster than my spedo. I haven't really done all highway roadtrips though, just daily driving to and from the grindstone, or should I say the day X5World viewing location.

Got curious and just checked the mileage computer thingy. 17.4mpg. That would be city driving with "mostly in sport mode lead foot" Dave at the wheel. I was actually surprised it was that high. Better than my old 4.4.
2005 4.8is 12,000 miles.

I'm getting about 16.5-17.0 in my '02 4.4i. I thought BMW upped up the MPG ratings on the Valvetronic engines.

But I would agree - it's always the right time to upgrade to a 4.8is.

Got the X5 for my wife's daily driver. Her daily commute is about 4 miles to work, all city driving. At 4290 on the clock, the average MPG is 15.05.

This a true reading where the distance since last fill-up is divided by physical amount pumped. I find that in both our BMW's, the MPG from the onboard computer to be very optimistic, usually reading 1-2 MPG higher than actual.
