Hmm, that's a new one. I would have said it is probably the electronics on the seat however you say the tilt wheel also doesn't work. Call a dealer and describe the problem, see if they can offer a reason.

Well I did, but they don't know either. However I went to another guy, who is a european auto specialist. He told me that he may have to re-program some computer. I don't know, this is my first bimmer. I have always had a honda, well a sup'd one, so things like this dont even exsist.

I don't have any problems with my power seats *knocking on wood* but my power tilt steering wheel only moves up and down. It won't go forward and back. Except...one day it did! Just out of no where I tried it, and it moved forward. But that was the only time. Hasn't worked since.

This could be the "seat memory" computer failing, software in the computer messed up or a simple wiring fault where wires in the loom are making intermittent contact or relays in the system are not operating correctly. Then it could also be the actual motors themselves. When the carbon brushes wear they can also result in intermittent contact.
Very complex system to troubleshoot, even with the wiring diagrams as they are pretty cryptic to sat the least. I just spent 15 minutes looking at each fuse to see if there was a simple answer. |

I had the same problem with the driver window, the problem was solved by cleaning and oiling the windows motor, and then it works fine
I think you have problem with the seat motor I recommend you to check it with the electrician dealer Regards |

The seat "buttons" can be replaced as a unit. Does not look too difficult to do.
See here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...23&hg=52&fg=10 The motor is under the seat so everything has to come out. See here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...25&hg=52&fg=15 |

Maybe it just has Coke in the seat switch. I'd pull the plastic side cover and douch it with electronic cleaner from the auto parts store.
