Check Engine Soon light. Possible cause?

Day before yesterday, I filled her up and didn't turn off the engine until after I opened the gas cap. Yesterday, I noticed a Check Engine Soon light. Are our cars overly sensitive to doing something like not turning off the engine while we pump gas?

The shop showed a DTME fault (or something along that line...). I didn't want to wait an hour for them to run a full diagnostic search for the cause. I figured I'd wait to see if it happens again after the next fill up. And, next time, I'll turn off the engine BEFORE I open the gas cap.

Yes. Gas cap loose with engine running will trip a SES.

Z95, it's not loose. I can vouch for that. I believe I tripped the SES when I opened the gas tank with the engine running.

If the cap is loosened for any reason while the engine is running the SES light will illuminate. Whether it be that you forgot to tighten it after a fillup or loosened it while the engine was running you will get the same result. The light will go away on its own after a few days provided you don't trip the sensor again.

That's what I meant. It trips even if it is a little loose. If you remove it that's a LOT loose!

Okay, one rolling funny face was funny. But two? Ah, that's cold.
