$960 for shipping parts to Canada???

I placed an order at Pacific BMW for the running board kit for my X5 and an M-Tech aero kit for my 330xi. They intially quoted me $300 to ship to Canada which I thought was reasonable. Even with exchange, shipping and duty it was half the price of the local BMW stealership.

Then they tell me their shipper (don't know the name of the company) doesn't cross the border so I ask them to ship it UPS.
Just got a call back from them with a UPS shipping quote of $960!!!
The aero kit and running boards are apparently packed in several large boxes that take up 2 palettes (so they say). Needless to say I cancelled the order.

Any Canadians out there who know how to get stuff like this across the border at a reasonable cost? Or better yet a Canadian vendor that doesn't charge an arm and leg?

That's the price you pay for being an enthusiast and a Canadian. Stealers here are charging astronoimical prices compared to the States and really sometimes I have to bite the bullet and order locally to save the hassle of shipping charges, taxes, duty,... and all kinds of crap. And like you said some vendors/dealers won't even ship to Canada.

Ship them to a member of this board close to you on the US side of the boarder and drive over to get them. Even install teh running boards to make it easier to haul

That's an interesting idea. I'm game for a road trip . Unfortunately it sounded like the M-tech aero kit boxes (front, rear and sides are in separate boxes) would be too large to fit in the X5. I guess I could unpack them and dump the boxes.
Anybody live in Montana? I'll bring you some Canadian beer!

Yeah man, just have them shipped to a person in Buffalo, NY (right at the border at Niagara Falls), then just drive over there and pick them up.

As for the Canadian beer...lame stuff...just like Canadian women. When it comes to beer and women, the Americans win.

My dad lives in Post Falls, ID and I'll be there in about three weeks. I suspect you can have them left at the shipping company for will call. I did this with some flooring I had shipped via roadway from Washington. It was quite a bit cheaper for me to drive 20 minutes and pick it up will call vs. them having to put it on a different truck and deliver it to me. The shipper for my stuff was Roadway, there is probably a place in Northern Montana or Idaho you can do this at...

That's Bull$hit. I ordered ALL my parts from the States; My full 4.6is body kit...front & rear bumper, 20" wheels, Navigation parts, Bluetooth parts, etc. etc. and I didn't pay $900 for ALL the shipping combined!!

Call Vaheh @ Crevier BMW and tell him to hook you up. Tell him Arvi referred you...I've given him 1000's in business for my X5 and 540i. See what he can do for you before you consider your other alternatives.

I think Bavarian needs a geography lesson . I'd sooner drive down to Pacific BMW in California and pick it up myself than drive all the way to Buffalo.
