Is there a way for the stock, non premium, radio to display the song title/artist?

While I was browsing Ebay, I saw picture of an X5 without the premium radio and it was displaying the name of an artist...the radio function was selected so I know it wasn't the cd...so is there a way for the radio to display the song title/artist of a song playing on the radio?

cmyX6go will become famous soon enough
I don't think it has anything to do with your stereo. If the station you are listening to broadcasts (for lack of a better word) the info, your stereo will display the info. .

Are you sure it was not Sirius?--that displays a channel, artist, and song.

It is radio station dependent, some Radio stations are RDS enabled that displays the Radio station name, Show title, Artist, Song name, etc, some may display only the station name, Some radio stations will display nothing because they are not RDS enabled. (make sure RDS is also enabled in your X)

Thanks...that makes sense...just didn't know that some stations varied with their RDS capabilities. Thanks for the help.

Another quick tip. If you select the radio station using your steering wheel controls (up/down arrows for presets while listening to radio), you'll get the RDS song/artist/station info displayed below your gauges- tho I think this only applies if you have "High obc" where a full line of text can be displayed there. If there's no RFD/PTY info available, then just the station will show.
