Car won't start...help.

Had the engine off with the lights on for about 30 mins. Went to turn it on, lights on all systems seem good but when I turn the key all I hear is a sound that I can only describe as a short. From under the hood area and a cracking sound from the dash. Then nothing. Pull the key out and the key in ignition warning comes on.

I'm going to try that after dinner. Just weird that all the lights work & that short sound didn't sound good.
