X pipe install
Ok so i bought an X pipe for the ole X and i went to my shop where i get all my work done. When they got it they asked me why i wanted to cut up a perfectly good exhaust on a $64,000 car with 9000 miles on it. I guess the X pipe is not a bolt on and there has to be some cutting and welding of extra exhaust pipe installed and they did not want to do it. Should i bother with this, is this mod worth the possible rusting of welds and problems? Should i jsut got to a specialty muffler shopand have it done? Just want to get some feedback from you all in what you think i should do.

Obviously your mechanic is a repairman and not a hod rodder. Take your X5 to a specialty muffler shop. They will understand what you're doing and why you're doing it. Adding on the X-Pipe will not cause any premature problems with your exhaust so long as it's welded correctly. If done right, you'll keep your X-Pipe even if you install an aftermarket exhaust system.
