horn failure, can i change my horn?

guys, my hi tone horn keeps failing after a long drive. but in the mornings, my horn's okay. is there a problem with the horn itself? i've cleaned the contacts already with a contact cleaner and the problem does not go away. can i change my horn into a larger and better one? will it cause the OBC any error message when replacing the horn with other types? isaw that the contact is a socket type and a new aftermarket horn does not have, but that is not a problem i guess. i'll just ground it directly to the new horn. any issues might this mod bring?

thanks.

I don't see why you can't do this mod.

I think you can. Hella makes some bigger and louder horns that should fit. On an old Land Cruiser I had, I didn't like the Tercel horn so I swapped out the little stock horn and had two trumpet like horns from Porsche. It was cool how a Japanese truck sounded like a Porsche honking.

it will not do anything as far as any error message.

I actually have a european/ferrari type of horn installed on my X5.

The install was a piece of cake. Your x5 has two horns. You unhook the connectors from both of the horns and then just cut the connector off one of the horns leaving you wit two wires, the dark wire(black or brown) is the negative and the other color wire is positive.

Use those two wires to power your NEW existing horn.

Leave the other connector for the other horn just dangling or whatever not a big deal. Or what u can do, is check how both of the stock OEM horns sound individually and then cut the connector of the horn that you dont like/need as much.

easy as that

Just curious but do you really use your horn that much.

I haven't used mine in 10 years.

honestly, me gettin a new "cool sounding" horn makes me use it more, EVEN when its not needed. I would be at a red light, just honkin for no reason

I am still waitin to get next to a ferrari and have them honk, and me honk back wit the same soundin horn, comin from a big truck lol
