Da Infamous Car Alarm/Remote Start

Im heading to Best Buy next weekend to drop the pennies on a car alarm w/ remote start. Im thinking that I will go with their most expensive unit, the RX3.5 (clifford, DEI, or viper i think), which is roughly 500 scubbies. Does anyone know of any electrical issues that will cause the alarm + auto start on an X5 to perform sub-par; as in not work or short-out my SAV ???

Well you'll be giving up one of your keys but other then that I can't see why you would have any issues.

Can you expound a bit on the "giving up one of your keys" issue? (I'm really reall new to the X5 world; literally)

Your car requires a chipped key to start. Therefore in order for the system to remote start one of your keys must be in the car to interface with the immobilizer system. This is common on every car using a chipped key.

AWWW SH%$. So you're saying that I would either have to leave a key in the ignition all the time, or somehow bypass the immobilizer or ... hack it?

No, the kit will come with a "box" that requires your key. Your key goes in this box and is usually hidden under the dash.

There are a couple of ways to do it, the most popular way is by putting a key in a ox, the other is a more extensive and involves getting an antenna ring and tapping some wires.

Read this link for a little more info.
The most important thing is having a very good install.
You can have a poor quality starter/alarm work better than expensive one that is installed improperly.

I have the top of the line Viper remote start!

Make sure you ensure the bypass box and the wires are away from the moving parts. This caused me to hear a rubbing noise.
