Has anyone replaced their head unit?

I have yet to run across anyone who has taken the leap....

Has to be someone out there...

Bueller? Anyone? Bueller?

And quickly to the bottom this thread will go. Its amazing. So I am guessing the answer is no.

Any reason, since nobody on the planet has replaced their head? I would like to know what I am missing here before I dig in.

The biggest thing you miss by replacing the BMW head unit is the ability to control the On Board Computer functions.

On my previous 01 X, I did swapped the OEM head unit for the Alpine CDA-7998. It required the custom cutout to fit in the original slot. But like UCrew said you would lose the onboard computer fncs.I still have the complete system...ams, x-over, subs..etc and I haven't installed them in my current X. Not sure I will.
