Talking Aftermarket for 2006 X5 4.8is

I just picked up my new X5 and I am noticing that a lot of the aftermarket interior/exterior/performance mods are more for the lower models. Not that I consider anyone's X5 lesser than mine.

Easy mods for me are wheels and CAI, but I would love to hear from the other 4.8is owners and what they have added to theirs.

By the way, going from a 2000 F150 to this, wholy sh!t, I guess once you go bimmer you don't go back.

u can get the intrax suspension module at a cost of 750$

after the installation of this module, you can over ride the suspension so that it wont raise from the lowest option after going above 25mph.

I recently installed this module, and it works perfectly, my car was already dropped by my dealership. So now me having this module, and aLREeady having my car be lowered it is real low. Probably 2fingers space between the front tire to the fender.

You can also get some aftermarket fogs or hid's.

How about an under ride guard from bmw..the chrome one.

As far as performance goes the 4.8 does not have a lot besides, intake, exhaust, the throttle body made by dinan hasnt been used enough for me to get it, because the last person that had it on this board, it broke.

But as FAR as cosmetic mods go, you can do basically anything ud do to any another car.

welcome to X5world!!! you'll find a lot of helpful people here; i can attest to that having joined just a few months ago myself .... anyway pleased to meet you, and yes you will definitely find there's a lot of great stuff you can do to your already-"better" X lol ...... also try using the SEARCH function, it works REALLY well on this board

btw first thing i'd recomend you do, as it's something i did to my 4.4 -- find an exhaust shop that PRIMARILY works on high-end and exotic cars (ferrari, lambo, bentleys, and then bimmers and benzes lol) ....

get them to make you a custom exhaust. tell them you want it to be throaty but without sounding obnoxious. a good benchmark to aim for IMHO is an AMG Benz sound.

i only suggest this cuz it's what i ended up getting for my X4.4 and i've gotten crazy compliments about it.

i've got a video up here somewhere if you search for it or i suppose i could just link you directly lol:

oh and before you ask, the exhaust i got was $1200 (well i only paid $100 lol cuz i swapped with the guy who had it done heh) ...... while you may think this is a bit much than buying a standard aftermarket non-custom setup, check out the prices ... it's not realy much more

:xoutpost: Welcome Menerso, you lucky dawg! Congrats on your new 4.8is purchase. May it bring you years of motoring pleasure!

I think you'll find that the 4.8is is probably a little limited in regards to engine mods because none of the 4.6is stuff works in it. To go along with what imola4.8isWA said, some new Dinan parts came out very recently. Keep watching this board - you'll probably see feedback from other member. Crosvs mentioned exhaust; there's a variety of systems from different manufacturers available.

As far as interior/exterior mods, you already have the coveted 4.8is body kit, but there is plenty of good stuff left to be added at owner's disgression - upgraded angeleyes, running boards, clear bras, aluminum pedals, iceLink, dozens of different wheels, M steering wheels, xenon foglights, carbon fiber trim, aero kit, trailer hitch, etc. etc. etc.

Have fun!

Awesome! I am definitely going to google the Intrax module.

How much HP did you gain by customizing the exhaust?

Thanks for the warm welcome too!

Marty

how much did hp did i gain? well, a lot of throaty throbbing rumble, and a priceless grin across my face every time i floor it

seriously though, i have no idea ... however i'm hoping that when combined with the intake i maaaaaay be able to take my buddy's CLK350 ... we've tested MANY times and as i mentioned somewhere on these boards, he's always been JUUUUUUST a little faster than me off the line, and from rolling starts from 20, 40, 60, 80, etc lol ....

so hopefully now i'm neck and neck if not a little faster, i'll let you know once i get aroudn to testing

summitracing.com sells them for like 760$... the the intrax price is somewhere around 1,000 just to let u know

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...25130+115+1007

thats the link to the module where you can purchase it

The ICM INTRAX MODULE module has three modes

1)Acts like stock, the module does not do anything as if its turned off
2)The car raises from the lowest setting, but at a higher speed then 25mph. (i think its like 40-50mph)
3)The car is completely controlled by the switch inside the car, it will stay in any setting not depending on the speed. You can either drive with the car in the highest setting and or the lowest setting and it will stay in that setting!

The way to install it is, pull out the glove compartment and tap into some wires. If you have tapped into or split wires and then tapped into them before, then this will be a piece of cake. The install is not difficult.
