Anyone ever transplant an S54 M3 engine?

Anyone ever attempted an S54 M3 transplant into a 3.0 X5?

No and it would proably be to expensive. Also it would have to be a manual tranny.

I have a 6 speed...

...I have a 6 speed and am seriously contemplating this. There are a bunch of S54's out ther enow...The subframe mounts should be the same for the M54/S54...Wire harness shouldn't be that much of a difference in that the layout for both engines would be the same....Anyone with some thoughts on this?

Would be an interesting swap. Keep us posted if you decide to do this.

Its a little more complicated than you stated but with enough money its possible. Go for it i woild love to see it happen. But be prepared for unexpected complications and money alot of it. And by the way there are not that many S54s out there. Wont be that easy to find

IMHO: Don't. The S54 M3 engine is not meant to pull this kind of weight around. You'll tear it up in a relatively short time.

You want to do something, SC the existing 6 you have.

anything can be done.. it's just how much you're willing to pay. My question would be why though?? lack of torque and being high strung on a SAV will get you no where..

agree with the posts above, either supercharge the one you have, or, if you're worried about warranty issues, trade your 3.0 in for a 4.4 or better yet, a 4.8. When you price out swaping an engine verses a supercharger, you'll probably spend more than you would buying a used 4.4. good luck with whatever you chose, I too am looking into ways to beef up my 3.0, but I think in the end I'd rather have a 4.4.
