Resonator going back on the 4.8

I am taking the 4.8 back to the shop to get the resonator put back on. I just got it taken off last Friday and I can not take it anymore. It made the X5 sound more like a mustang or some truck with exhaust rather than the high performance vehicle that it is. Other people out there may want their X to sound like that, but it is not for me.

No damage done, except for a few $. Was it the tone or the loudness that you didn't like? Would be interesting if you could do some before and after dB measurements. Do you have access to a sound meter?

No I do not have access to one. It sounded nice when you started the car but when you really hit the gas it sounded like it had glass packs. It was just not the sound you would be looking for coming from a BMW. I have thought of putting the Dinan system on, but after this experience I might just stick with what the 4.8 came with.

i love the sound of the 4.8 dont know why anyone would want it to sound louder, maybe they think people will look twice and think its faster than it really is. each to there own i guess

Personally I like the quiet approach. Attention is something i don't need or want. Right now the stock 4.4 has this kinda growl which i find suits my ears. The CEO says it growls like an animal. I agree with her.

The sound on the 4.4 is just about right when you put your foot into it. Anything louder would simply not be advisable.

I've never heard the sound on a 4.8, but I can only imagine what it must be like...truly awesome.

That's what I like about my X-Pipe mod on my 4.4 - really subtle, but just enough to let just a bit more of that growl out when I lean on the gas...

i dont think people hate it, its just a matter of taste. IMO the 4.8 sounds really nice and i dont think it needs to be louder iam not a big fan of the big booming exhaust systems, but thats just me.

I got a 4.4 with a Dinan exhaust and think the sond level and growl it emits is perfect.
