OBC on stalk not working

The BC button on the stalk doesn't work (2000 4.4i). I've seen a few posts about this problem and a defective micro-switch is often mentioned as the likely cause. One post I saw however, suggested that the function could be turned off so I'm wondering if that is my problem. The question is how do you turn it back on, and also how do you turn it off (why would you want to do that?)

If that is not the problem, is it difficult to service or replace the switch? Pictures would be good.

I have a BC switch on the radio and that seems to work OK

You need to change the complete stalk. The switch is sealed into it. No way to change it without ruining the stalk.
Another example of a $140 that relies on a 2c component.
