Just got a mint condition '01 3.0 Pearl Beige X5 and have ???s

First off, let me say that I absolutely love my new-to-me X5. It has 75k miles and was kept exceptionally well. I actually contacted the previous owner in North Atlanta and she was very helpful, explaining that she loved it and that it never gave her a bit of trouble, save a window regulator . She only traded because she wanted a change. Anyway, my X5 has no noises, or anything and from what I have read, this is rare for an X5 to not have any problems. I've been trying to notice any noises when going over bumps or turning; I haven't noticed any that were obvious; are the control arm, sway bar link noises noticeable or do you have to concentrate to hear them? I'm a very picky driver so if there were a noise, it's very likely that I'd hear it. Also, the driver's window auto-up function doesn't work, the auto-down works, just not the auto-up. I'm guessing this was the window that had the regulator replaced. What's causing the auto-up function not to work but the auto-down to function properly? The previous owner said that probably 2/3 of the miles on this X5 are highway miles stemming from her travels back and forth to Birmingham from Atlanta, so is this why the suspension parts still seem to be in very good condition and noise-free or is that wishful thinking? I had a very good European tech look at it before purchasing and he said all parts were in exceptional condition...he had nothing to gain by lying so I believed him. Nonetheless, with the control arms and sway bar links costing so little, I'm pretty inclined to go ahead and buy those and replace them anyway. What do you guys think? Sorry for all the questions...if I've confused any of you let me know and I'll try to clarify.

Congrats on your new X5!
With regards to the window auto-up, I would say the window switch is bad.

Thanks for the reply, IFly. Do you mean only the driver's window switch or that entire piece w/ all four switches?

Congratulations! I love the Pearl Biege color. My 01' has been trouble free too. As IFlyX5 said, it's probably the window switch on the door panel. I don't know if the single switch can be replaced or you need to buy the entire 4 switch assembly.

Thanks, Tomaz. I'm glad to hear that your '01 has been trouble-free...that makes me feel much better. I do have an extended warranty that covers the powertrain, engine, tranny, rear-end, etc. but it's still good to know that yours has been great; I hope mine continues to be this wonderful. I'd like to keep mine as stock-looking as possible but I'm thinking of getting the clear corners all around along with the new X5 3.0 non-sport wheels, simply to update the look. What do you think?

I believe it's the whole assembly.

Look at part #2 in the link below. Part No. is 61-31-6-925-695.
You don't want item #1 because you don't have the auto-folding mirrors.

Thanks, IFly. Hopefully I'll be able to get that replaced pretty soon. It's not a big deal, at least the auto-down still works.

I was just wondering if the anti-pinch strip is bent, or defective. You know BMW has this anti-pinch safety feature built into the door strip so if the window glass is being rolled up and your arm is stuck between the upper door strip and the glass, it automatically stops the window from pinching your arm. If the strip is short circuited or something, it might prevent the window from auto-up.

Look at the upper strip on the door window and see if it is cracked, bent, or damaged. It could be the cause.

Thanks, I'll check that in the morning when I can really see.
