Angry X5 Business Radio - Burned CD's - OUTRAGED

So after four years of the X5 being in the family, it is now essentially mine to take to college (yay?). I've been driving it for like two weeks now, and all my CDs played fine thus far. I have the 6 CD changer in back, and the BMW Business deck up front with the cassette under the magic-touch wood door.

Now all the sudden it doesn't work. It say's "NO DISCS" and clearly there are 6 CDs in there. I called BMW, and they tell me "those won't play burned CDs, they came out before CD burning technology." Well that sounds like a lot of crap to me and I was wonder if anybody else has had similar problems.

Might I add my 96 Chevy, with like what had to be the world's first car CD player, plays my burned CDs fine. How frustrating! What should I do?

The BMW CD changer will play burnt CD's, as your earlier 2 weeks experience can atest to. First, the obvious question - are you sure the disks are in the right way and not upside down? If that doesn't fix it then try burning a new CD at a low burning speed and see if you can play that. If not, your CD changer may be going flakey.

Good luck!

I agree with UCrew
Perhaps those who gave their advice should be educated. Find the problem
document it and kindly provide it. Explaining that it may help them in the future to give information based on accurate information.

well whats going on here? it isnt playing any cds now... i cant see how it would just randomly break while playing my burnt (heaven forbid!) cds. Burnt CDs are like all I have - I buy all my music on iTunes.

I've been trying all kinds of CDs - burned and regular store bought - it still says "NO DISCS" after it does teh "CD CHECK".

Is there an auxiliary (spelling?) port that I can perhaps plug an external CD player or my iPod into? I'd hate to not have music on this long road trip I'm about to take....

By the way, this HAS happened a few times before, but that was when it wasn't my car. My mom had brought it in but it didn't really do anything. the problem kept coming back.

Unfortunately there isn't an AUX input on a 2001.

Although unlikely it's the problem, look at the unit and make sure that it is set for the horizontal mounting position. See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...icle&artid=155 for info on how to check this.

Although it wouldn't affect CDs you purchased which were mastered at a record company, use a program to burn your CDs that gives you the option to "finalize" your recording. Roxio is a good one.

Another thing to do is to stand near your CD player as you try to play a CD (this may require an assistant). If you hear the CD spinning but it's not playing, it's not reading the disc, the disc is not seated properly (indicating a problem with the loading mechanism), it's upside down, or your laser pickup needs to be cleaned. I can give you instructions on how to clean the optics in the unit if need be.

The CDs are burned with iTunes, which is the default Macintosh audio cd burning utility. They are finalized with that program. But that's besides the point, since it isnt playing store-bought CDs now either.

When I load the carriage (the magazine?) with the 6 CDs into the player, i hear it make a short noise 6 times whilst the deck says "CD CHECK". Then it stops and reports "NO DISCS" and the noises stop.
