My dealer just told me that 20 inch wheels will damage your X5

I had my X5 at the dealer for routine stuff. I picked it up and the service advisor said that the Tech told him i should remove my Style 87 wheels because it will cause the Steering rack to wear out prematurly and also the suspension bushings. He said only the 4.6 and 4.8 can go bigger than 19inched. Because it has a completely different steering system that is stronger and stonger suspension bushhings in our to deal with the extra weight friction and G forces the lager tires and wheels create.

Is this bullshit. Or has anyone else ever heard of this. Sounds like crap to me.

Never heard of that. From 19" to 20" isn't a quantum leap in wheel size/weight by any stretch.

I honestly dont know Where the hell they get this shit from. every time i go to the dealer its something new with them. I know the 4.6 and 4.8 have a different assist on there steering systems. But the actual steering rack and hardware is the same. Am I wrong?

Even if you're wrong, I don't believe that 20" wheels will damage your steering.

There are many ugly, poorly built Escalades out there with 24" rims, which are still running. If POS Chevys (Cadillac is the same thing) are running fine with 24", I don't see why the X5 shouldn't.

Wonder if they will use that line to try and void the warranties if you ever have steering rack problems.

they said that if i kept the wheels on there they would not fix any steering related issues if they cam up.

also Larger wheels do damage a Vehicle after a While. actually escalades especially are really having problems with this when they put on 24inch wheels. But they have 18 stock.

Now i am saying that i have factory BMW 20 inch wheels that do not affect the 4.8 and are oem on them. Now does the 4.8 and the 4.4 have the same steering system or not. That is my question. i figured that everything is the same between the 4.4 and 4.8/ Isnt it.

Also going from 19inch to 20 inch is alot different than going from 19inch to 24inch on an escalade. Even if the 4.4 and 4.8 where different steering and suspension. I dont even think it would matter since its only plus one size,
