Its hard to know what the best choice is. It looks like most tuning box options have to be soursed from Europe.

There are very few people in Australia that know anything about them.

Appreciate all the help!!!

Hey guys
Try this one - was absolutely brilliant in my 330d M Sport Touring..!
http://www.tuningbox.com
Just plug in to the system and remove when you want to - no adverse effects.
Plenty more power, better torque and even better economy in the fuel department if no lead-foot syndrome prevailing.

Tuningbox seems to be the most popular.

Great info. What about smoke levels?Do you get more black smoke now or is it hardly noticeable?

Never noticed any black smoke at all.
Economy improved but it really was sooooo tempting to floor and red-line a lot.
Rolling acceleration was astonishing - Boxster beware and BiBi. Subaru Impreza always ended up in the rear-view mirror as well.
AND the 330d was a DIESEL...!
HoHoHo.!

Question insurance

If you put a tuning box on a standard X5 3.0d, how much does it put up your insurance

Ooops I realised that i put there X5 3.0D in the post title. I ment to ask the question of the X3 3.0D. Down here in Australia they produce 160kw and 480nm of torque standard.

There are so many companies in Europe that make these tuning boxes, but all the figures over there are different to the power and torque they produce here in Australia.

Is there any brand of tuning boxes to stay away from???? Or any brand that give excellent service and backup response to their products.

Basically I want the tuning box which does the most research and development in their product so I know the product is safe to use!!

Thanks

Hi,
I havent purchased my X5 yet, but I have an old acquaintance that has a Diesel X5. He is also acknowledged as one of the best Diesel mechanics in Australia. His name is Reinhard Leimroth, he is based in Berrima just south of Sydney. His company is Berrima Deisel Service.
He has two websites www.berrimadiesel.com.au and also www.awdtech.com.au
He has developed his own chip called the DP Chip which is supposed to give up to 35% more power & torgue and also up to 10% better fuel economy.
I cant personally verify the system, but I do know that diesel owners from around the eastern seaboard have him fix their vehicles.
Hope this helps.

Thnaks for that. I only just discovered him the other day and am liaising with them now. Its called the DPchip.

The crew there have been very helpful. It appeard that they used to be the Australian agent for Tunit but have gone in their own direction and developed their own AUSTALIA fuel maps.

Looks promising!!.

Thats great, I hadnt seen him for years, till I bumped into him at the caravan and camping show here in Sydney , asked him about a Sahara, and he convinced me the X5 was the way to go.

I'm in Sydney and hope to have a sport X5 by mid july.
