Aftermarket Running boards...

OKay, i'm officially hooked now.

a little background...maybe to understand the addiction:

i have always leased and haven't owned a car since college.
due to the amount of driving i do a year, leasing was not an option for me anymore.

driving new every three years makes you a bit spoiled... and bc of that i was hesitant buying used.

well, to cut down my story, i knew i wanted a truck and never really thought of the X5, that is, until i drove it. i have been smitten ever since.

as cmyxgo clearly put it, "mods can be addicting."

i realized right away i needed to update my ride. if i would have known what i know now, i probably would have went with an 04...anyhoo, i need your opinions!!

i want the Running Boards, however, I'll have to wait a month or more (i'm impatient!) to get the OEM boards!

has anyone purchased after market boards? if so, did you regret it? will you recommend a dealer?

or did you have a negative experience?

these are the ones i'm considering:

I haven't purchased aftermarket running boards, however Bavarian Motorwerks seems to have a very good reputation. Some folks here have mentioned it.

btw, I think those matching wheels look pretty nice. Hmmm. . . ? Nudge, nudge.

Those look like they mount on the existing trim and are not as wide as the OEMs. The OEM running boards also come with new trim that extends over both wheel wells and is at least an inch or two wider than the original trim along the body.

Nice wheels, make sure they come with the center caps. Damn girl, you're not wasting any time, are you.

The aftermarket are not that strong and i have heard of them breaking once you put a little more weight, and then the owners go buy OEM. I do not recommend. You can get the OEM with 25% discount and install is not that difficult.

I would not recommend the aftermarket running boards. There are some threads in here about them and if you do a search, should be able to find some comments about them.

For the OEM ones, they retail for $725, Morristown seem to have the lowest price I seen at $485. Check out this thread:

Probably not that far from you. Lots of info on installation on this board too as it is a very popular mod. Good luck.

ty all for your opinion. i decided to hold off and get the OEM RB's. since i just purchased the rims and consequently will need new tires i'll hold off on the RB's.

the ones by bavarian are a good price, however, it seems pp get those and are not happy... eventually buying the OEM one's.

that $370 could be another mod!

autoX: thanks for that info. i will be calling them shortly. i still need the TI grill & hood vents.

cmyX: when i want something...watch out! i just don't like my car with the 17's...it's bad, really bad.
btw they do come with the BMW emblem and yes, they are staggered.

Don't forget to also get the titanium rear handle along w/ the mirror sorrounds, as soon as I get my camera back next week I'll take pics and post so you can see if you like it.
I will also get the RB's (OEM off course ), you are off to a good start and little by little your X5 will transform the way you want it.
