What year X5 do you have? What options/packages?
If you have a functional VR module, it should "beep" when you hold down the "talking man" button on the steering wheel.

Nothing happens when I press the talking guy. Does anyone have any photos of what the installation looks like specifically in an X5?

I bought a bluetooth module w/the VR module built in for my '04. Was your bluetooth a factory/dealer installed module? It sounds like you need to buy a separate VR module. The install is pretty easy. I think there's a posting on the home page that deals specifically with the install.

Yes the bluetooth was factory installed and since I can't seem to get VR to work , I assume I don't have it. I have been unable to locate the "blue connector" as it has been described in a couple of write-ups (those by the way were on 5 series cars). Do you have any pictures of the VR stuff installed?

The blue connector should be tied up in the bundle behind your cd changer location behind the driver side rear cargo panel. You should be able to see it easily. Check out the install write up on the xoutpost.com home page under section "Navigation" item no. 13. there are pics. posted there.

I am absolutely positive that mine (09/2005 UK) does not have this connector. I have spoken to someone who says there is a 'T-cable' available that plugs in in line with the bluetooth module and gives you the 'blue connector'.
I have had nearly everything out of the back to look for the blue connector but cannot find it. Happy hunting John |

Cant say about the UK Cars but I can tell you that in my 2005 X5 right behind the CD player laying down on the floor is a batch of wires that look like they are going in and out of a connector when in fact it's only a plug that serves as a jumper. If you remove that jumper plug what your left with is that blue connector that plugs into the VR. If you look too hard you wont find it. But if you look for wires that seem to go in and out of a plug then you have found it. Look real close and you will see that those wires coming out of one side of the plug and going right back in the same plug. Theres a release on the side of the blue connector that allows you to disconnect it from the jumper plug. Once that release has been moved to the side you can gently toggle the plug back and forth until the plug is dislodged from the connector. Don't do this until you have the VR though. Remember those wires are jumpered. When you disconnect that jumper something is not going to work. So get all your parts together before you begin.
