I recently installed/upgraded my 2001 X5 headlight assemblies from the halogen to new Xenon headlight assemblies with the auto leveling. I was under the impression that it was a plug and play install. However after getting them in I realized that the extra plugs that were on my X5's existing wiring harnesses do not match the autolevel ports on the assemblies. Also, I am now getting the fault on the dash for malfunctioning headlights until I turn the headlights on. Does anybody know what the two extra plugs on the wiring harnesses are for, and if there is a fix to get the autolevelors powered and the headlight fault corrected? I can't beleive that BMW would not wire all of the X5's Xenon or not with different wiring harnesses?

I am not aware of anyone that has gotten the autoleveling mechanisms working with a retrofit, but here is information on how to resolve the warning message in the dash - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=34
This document from BMW also discussed such a retrofit and indicates which option packages should be on the vehicle in order to have the necessary wiring harness configuration - http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/xenonretroinstall.pdf Both of these documents can be found in the LIGHTS section on the main page - http://xoutpost.com Good luck!
