My OEM hitch kit did not come with a ball. The OEM one is pricey, but it fits snugly and doesn't rattle (some aftermarket ones may not fit as well, so check). There is a specification in the tow bar installation instructions for maximum drop and maximum rear offset.
Regarding wiring instructions for the brake controller I would look to the manufacturer of the controller. There are various means of activating the brake controller, often with an additional pad on the brake pedal. See the instructions for a few typical installs on the X5world home page.

The break controller install is not as easy as one would like. It is made more difficult because of the way BMW multiplexes the wiring system and the Hall Effect brake light switch.
Read the articles at the front of this forum. Do not let the guy down at the trailer dealership tap into the wiring system. It will not work and may damage your electrical system. Technical support guys at the various brake controller manufacturers have been straighforwad in saying they don't have a good answer. |
