Is E46 Monitor compatible with X5????

Just had a discussion with a friend of mine who has been offered to buy a 16:9 monitor with front CD for his X5!He has been told that it will fit his car!I told him "no way"!!!

According to realoem.com,I see a 16:9 monitor with front Cd being available for an E46!Funny how you cant get it for an X5!
I am just wondering if my friend is in fact being offered an E46 monitor which someone told him will fit in his X5!

Well, I have asked the same question and the answer was "NO" due to the shape of the unit it will not fit. I know it will fit but you would have to do some major modification to the dash, or at least customize it to accomodate it. But if your friend decides to take a try at it and he is succesful, let us know as it will for sure be something I might be interested in doing also.

The e46 screen will physically sit into the opening, but it will not integrate into the interior trim at all and will look like crap. You'll notice that it has a ridge about a third the way down the unit, which is meant to blend into the dash lines on the e46. The e53, like the e38 and e39, don't have this. If you are going to do this, do it right and get the screen that fits the X5.

Below is a picture, from front to back, of an e46 screen, an X5 16:9 screen, and an X5 4:3 screen. I had all three at the same time when I was doing the 4:3 to 16:9 conversion. Trust me, the e46 screen would not integrate very well in an X5.

Thanks for the pics.Jeff.I am not going to bother anymore with my friend! He is the type of guy who can always get something cheaper than anyone else!Really hope he buys this monitor with front CD and learns his lesson.
All he has at the moment is the Business Radio with tape deck.If he gets this monitor will it be plug and play? Can he play CDs or will he still need to get all the modules. Thanks

It won't work without having the nav radio module that is mounted in the spare tire well, a nav drive, and a new wiring harness. It's a very complex retrofit, and as I stated before, if you are going to all the trouble to do this then you might as well use the proper components.
