After spending the whole weekend getting the tunes in her, I needed to clean her up!

Had some fun in the dunes this weekend. Second time out and have never once felt like I was going to get stuck. I don't do anything big or crazy but she sure is capable of cruising through the sand and smaller hills.

What pressures do you run with for the sand?

This particular instance I was at 20psi. First time out I was at 25psi. Give or take as I think my pressure gauge is a little off. The next day we took my buddies brand new Rubicon Wrangler out and really worked it hard. A few scary moments, so I for sure will not be doing any bowls or steep hills with the X5. Perfect for cruising around the dunes though.

I live about 12 km's from the largest mobile sand dune system in the southern hemisphere and have had plenty of fun there in our Toyota Landcruiser (4.2 diesel, manual). Autos are far better in soft sand, so I've been toying with the idea of taking the X there sometime for a bit of a blast. During our summer months, the sand gets quite 'hungry' and I've had the pressures in the Landcruiser down as low as 12 psi to cope... always worrying if I'm going to roll the tyre off the rim at that pressure.
Might have to head out sometime soon and post a few pics.... it's great fun but the first dune to get up is a monster.

Wow if that is the entrance to your dunes please be sure to post a video of an X5 conquering it. That's nuts.
In the picture I posted, I was about to go up that hill, it's bigger than the picture shows. I let my buddies Jeep go first and followed his path nice and easy. Never once giving it much throttle. I made it up no problem. Not once did I loose any traction. These X5s are proving to be very capable. The stares I get from the bigger trucks are amusing. I am sure they all think I'm a bit foolish. Coming down that same hill was tricky, only because your eyes play tricks and what looks to be a normal hill ends up being a steep drop off. So I had to make a quick turn at the last second to avoid going over. Playing in the sand is entirely new to me.

Driving in sand is a great learning tool and not for the faint-hearted. I've witnessed more than my fair share of fools wrecking their pride and joy, thinking it's indestructible and capable of anything - nothing is further from the truth and most people simply don't have the skills required when traversing steep dunes (both up and down). These dunes have sent quite a few 4x4's to their early grave. Can you spot the vehicle at the top of this dune?

I've had my 04 x5 for about a year and kept it all stock until a few weeks ago. Tinted windows, dipped wheels, and added an auxiliary input so far. Want to do some more stuff to it, but would love others opinions on what would look best.
So far I know I want to get a blacked/smoked side signal light but other than that I'm not sure. Looking for mostly style changed and not performance. Car has 125k on it.
