Turn Signal Weirdness...

On the way to DaDCMeet Saturday, my left turn signal
started doing the "dbl fast" click thing.

Upon arrival, Rob_ was kind enough to give it a quick look
and discovered that the front driver's side bulb was not working.

He gave me a 30 sec. lesson on how to change it, (most of
which I have since forgotten, ), but I was gonna give it
a go.

Few days later here at home on the Mtn., the sumbitch is
working again. So, I rolled it through Annual Inspection
yesterday.

I assume this is a temporary glitch/"fix"/reconnect and, it
has not really cured itself?

Ah, the ole bulb out phenomena. My old Ford Explorer has had 2 bulbs in 10 years. The computer never beeps! Depending on phases of the moon, weather, what color shorts I'm wearing, how much change is in my pocket the X pops "bulb outs" every other time I drive it. Usually they go away before I can start fooling with them!
Don't you just love this new fangled stuff?

I had a "taillight bulb out" warning last year, went and bought bulbs, and by golly, all the bulbs were working.

I'd say park your rig facing the Charlotte Motor Speedway during the next full moon, put on your Duckhead khakis, and circle your vehicle three times while pouring Budweiser on the ground.

Did you get the instrument warning about it when it happened?

Changing the bulb is a relatively easy thing to do, and for $1.98 a small price to pay to make that warning go away There's a DIY in the LIGHTS section. Just heed the advice about the gum/sticky tape when removing the lower screws!

The whole can be easily fix by pulling all the holder out. Give the matel contacts really good cleaning, bend the tab if needed. Make sure they all make good contact. I used to have problems like that left & right. Warning on dash said bulb problem but bulbs checked out fine. I clean all my contacts a year ago and no problems ever since. G/L

I'm going to pull the holders and clean then apply conductive grease. I have some lying about from my days in office equipment.

I gave the DIY on X5World a quick scan, thinking I might have to
change bulb & socket, as Rob_ had suggested to me; question is:
in cleaning the socket contacts, does that require "moving/sliding"
the headlamp assy. too, or just reaching in and pulling the turn
signal socket out?

Ya'll must have some eye surgeon hands as I can hardly get my
freakin ham hand down in that area.

JV: nah, no warning light on dash; dunno if the '01s have them.

Jes' glad it's working again, for awhile. I'm thinking it was the near
constant use on our 90 mph+ "cruise" up 1-85/I-95 chasing Mr.Valencia,
that made it glitch, eg, the turn signals were a clicking as we weaved
through the traffic for hours on end.

NEway, thanks for the ideas; I passed the freakin annual NC State
Car Insp. yesterday, so I'm glad. 1 Car down, 2 cars and 3 fookin Sleds
to go...
I need a "Stable Butler".

The display right above the steering wheel- yours don't have one? Hmmm...mine is an '01 but it came with Nav, maybe the diff. there.
