New to the board, looking at 02 4.4i

Hey everyone,

I'm new here and currently looking for an 02 X5 4.4i. I am looking to spend about $33K, and am curious to see if I can get one at that price with 40K - 50K mileage. I will be towing with it and doing a little off-road but nothing crazy.

Am I in the ballpark on price? Does it come standard with 18" wheels. Also, I didn't see a tow package as an option.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in Advance

:xoutpost:
a lot of articles about the tow hitch installation in the articles section, if ever you bought one without it, good luck!
The sport package comes with 19" and non-sport with 18" for the 4.4

Thanks for the response. Do you think the price is realistic?

How about a 2003 with tow package etc?
It will cost a bit more but worth it.
Hitch installed is about $1000.
See below, PM if interested.

:welcome:

If you're buying from a private party or a non-BMW dealer, you can definitely find vehicles in your target price range. But you won't get a warranty.

If you want a BMW CPO vehicle, it's likely the BMW dealer will have it listed at full used car retail price, but with persistent, but also patient negotiation, I think you might be to reach the mark. Tell the dealer exactly what you want as you've described it above and be firm on the price that you want to pay. Shop your requirements to as many BMW dealers as you can, but don't expect to find the car right away. It will take a little time, but there will be a dealer calling you with a deal that fits your requirements.

Here's 2 CPO vehicles in Tacoma -

X5 4.4i SAV
2002
Automatic
42,574
Titanium Silver Metallic
$34,900
BMW Northwest
Tacoma, WA

X5 4.4i SAV
2002
Automatic
44,549
Steel Gray Metallic
$36,900
BMW Northwest
Tacoma, WA

Asawadude, how do you like your 02 4.4? Did you buy it new? Have any major issues with it?

Thanks for the response. I have an auto broker working on it for me and he has many sources including dealers in Washington and CA. He also offers an extended warranty, not sure how its administered.

Thanks again for the help!

I love my '02 4.4i! But my last 8 cars were bimmers, so I'm completely jaded.

I bought 12 months ago, $38,500 CPO, 32K miles, sports and premium packages, rear climate, convenience package, comfort seats, cd changer, but no nav, no dsp. I wanted black, but ended up with TiAg. 12 months and 14K miles later, I've had the left front headlight fill with moisture and left rear window regulator fail. Both items were replaced under warranty. Other than that, my X5 runs like a charm.

I traded in a '2000 540i 6-spd that had most of the Dinan engine parts (CAI, MAF, chip) that I also loved, but on two long vacation trips, my wife and I ran out of luggage space on the return trip because of souvenirs and other trinkets. The X5 solved that problem, but it doesn't have the plant your ass in the seat speed of my old 540i which is what I miss the most.

But I don't regret buying my X5. I'll drive this one forever until it dies or gas is prohibited.

Regards, Mike

Don't fall into any warranty but the BMW CPO warranty. Trust me please. I had a friend that bought an M5 under a "warranty". Nothing of any expense was warranted and BMW wouldn't recognize it.

It is a much smarter play to buy the CPO X. Save yourself the headache.
