K&n Air Filter

Has anyone purchased a k&n filter for their 4.4? I was wondering if it would increase hp like the afe intake, or might it be better or worse considering the stock box and cold air intake ducts.

Keep the stock air filter, the K&N doesn't filter as well and the oil it uses can lead to problems with your air flow meter down the road.

I have used a standard air box and K&N on my 2001 since new. It has never caused problems for the 87k km I have on it now. No increase in HP noticable, a little better throttle response at around 80km thru 140 fast acceleration and a little better sound.

I have lurked here for as long as it has been here on and off. THe standard airbox is extremely efficient and not half as restrictive as other models IMHO and others that regualrly post here.

GO for it!

I've had mine on for about 20,000 km. Can't say I've noticed much difference in drivability but my gas consumption went from 16.8 litres/100km down to 15.5 litres/100km. If the K&N is letting in more dirt the dirt must be helping my mileage.

I got 1 MPG BETTER milage after adding a K&N. Everyone I know who's done a K&N or intake go better mileage.
rayx must be getting on the gas a little more now.

I had my K&N filter put in my 2004 4.4i about 1 year ago. To be honest, I cannot feel a huge difference but I would agree with some posts that the throttle sounds better. No improvement in mileage (always average 17L/100km)...perhaps that's because I have a bad habit of hard acceleration most times.

I can definitely tell you all there is a huge difference in the engine performance when I use Unleaded 100 RON petrol (recently introduced in Australia as Shell Optimax Extreme), just ashamed it costs us around $1.50/L here

My gas CONSUMPTION went down, which means my gas MILEAGE went up. The Ozzies and Canucks (and the rest of the metric world) know what I'm talking about.
