That thing sucks. I hate the BMW climate control knob... It just doesn't work. It is supposed to be the air coming to the face that it controls and not the climate but as we all know it changes the whole temp. There is no point to even change the temp degrees.
You can have it at three blue dots and at 90 degrees and it would be cold. Or you can have three red dots and at 60 degrees and it would be hot. The temp degrees doesn't even work well with that. |

My HVAC system works great, no problems at all. Rotary knob between the top vents stays on one blue dot, always. I only ever adjust the driver side of the digital climate control, between 19C and 20C. Air conditioning stays on year round. Occasionally I move the climate setting up to 20.5, but that is about it, it holds it perfectly.
If you treat the top vent temperature adjustment as a cabin temp setting, you will defeat the purpose of the auto climate control and in effect you won't have auto climate control.

Mine on the X3 work...
Whenever I want heat, but don't want to fall asleep I put the heat on 91˚F (I like it hot) and the knob to 3 blue dots... Cold air on the face + heat it works. Otherwise, when I run the A/C its on 3 blue dots, or very early in the morning when its cold its on 3 red dots. Towards the middle of the day I adjust it as I see fit... |

I always thought the rotary temp was a function of the digitally set temp, ie. three blue dots at 85 degrees isn't as cold as three blue dots at 60 degrees, this is because of the air mixture. In the manual it says that the digital temp is a reference for the interior temperature and that the rotary knob should be used for minor adjustments for upper body comfort.

When I got it back from the dealer a couple of weeks ago, they had run the temp control all the way down, and the adjusment knob all the way to coldest. I don't know why, but when I got in I re-centered the knob and put the temperature adjustment back where I normally do. I hate the way the heater works in the winter, though. I don't like hot air blowing on my feet while cold blows on my upper body. I usually take it off "auto" for that reason in the winter.
